About Our Paediatrics Programs
Paediatric brain injury is a devastating condition that affects the child and each member of the family. As children and adolescents attempt to return to their lives, they are confronted with barriers created by their neurologic disabilities.
A child with an acquired brain injury often will not successfully return to school, friends and the community without a specialized paediatric brain injury rehabilitation program.
These specialized programs offer rehabilitation for children in the school, at their home and in the community. Our programs offer:
- Occupational Therapy
- Physiotherapy
- Speech Language Pathology
- Paediatric Neuropsychology
- Behaviour Therapy
- Paediatric Cognitive / Academic Rehabilitation
NRIO also assists children and adolescents to rejoin their peers in school using a specialized teaching method known as Direct Instruction. Through this approach learning strategies are developed to address cognitive and academic challenges being faced by the student with a brain injury in the classroom.
During the summer months and school vacations NRIO offers an innovative program known as “Kids On The Go!”, which integrates cognitive and academic rehabilitation, learning opportunities and recreational experiences. Camp is held in Etobicoke, as well as in the Waterloo locations.
NRIO offers hope to these families through our School Re-Entry program, College and University Support Services and “Kids On The Go!” camp program.
