Paediatric brain injury is a devastating condition that affects the child and each member of the family. As children and adolescents attempt to return to their lives after a severe brain injury, they are confronted with barriers created by their neurological disabilities.
A child with an acquired brain injury often will not successfully return to school, friends and the community without a specialized paediatric brain injury rehabilitation program.
There is a place that offers help and hope to children and their families.
The Paediatric Acquired Brain Injury programs offered by the Neurologic Rehabilitation Institute of Ontario provide specialized rehabilitation for children and adolescents in their school, in the community and at home. Our programs provide occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, paediatric neuropsychology, behaviour therapy and paediatric cognitive rehabilitation academic. nrio assists children and adolescents to rejoin their peers in school using curriculum modification and a specialized teaching methodology known as Direct Instruction. Through this approach, children and adolescents use strategies to address their cognitive and academic challenges that affect them in the classroom. During the summer months and school holidays, nrio offers an innovative program known as "Kids on the Go," which integrates cognitive and academic remediation rehabilitation, learning and recreational experiences.
Children and adolescents with brain injuries need a special chance. If you know a young person who is experiencing problems as a result of a Paediatric brain injury, call us. We can help!
